STEM work in Primary 7

In Primary 7 we have been designing a 'hurricane-proof' structure, as part of our WAU topic on Jamaica. We were given a number of materials which we could use to try to create a structure which would hold a tennis ball and stand up to 'hurricane-force' winds. We planned our design and then built it. As we were building we found that some of our ideas didn't work very well, and so we made adjustments as we went along. To test our designs we measured the height of our towers (to the bottom of the tennis ball) and then measured how long the structure was able to withstand the 'hurricane-force' winds (using a hairdryer!). We used a mathematical formula to incorporate both measurements to decide which was the best design.

We are still waiting for the final results of this 'fair test'.
