P2 Floating and Sinking Investigation

In Primary 2, we have been investigating Floating and Sinking. We worked in small groups testing a variety of objects to see if our predictions were correct.

Next, we got a ball of plasticene and when we put it in the water we discovered that it sank. Our challenge was then to make a boat, out of the plasticene, which would float. This was great fun, but quite tricky! It took us a while to manipulate the plasticene into a boat shape. We tested our boats and some were successful, but there were also some that sank!

Our final challenge was to see how many blocks we could put in our boat before it sank. This ranged from 1 to 13. Rory and Emily's boat was able to hold 13 blocks and this proved to be our most successful model!!
