NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 2017

EARLY CLOSING/PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS Please remember school closes for all pupils at 1.00 p.m. from Monday 30th January – Friday 3rd February 2017 to accommodate parental interviews. . Dinners will be served as normal. Interviews have been arranged so that teachers will see family members on the same day. The interviews are timed to last 15 minutes and I would be grateful if you would please be mindful of the timescale allocated. As all teachers are interviewing, we cannot look after children during the interviews, so we would ask that you make arrangements to have someone care for them while you attend. Primary 7 pupils have been issued with invitations for interview regarding Transfer Procedures on Monday 30th, Tuesday 31st and Wednesday 1st February 2017. Due to the restrictions for return of forms, it is important that all parents attend on these three dates. You will also have an opportunity of firstly meeting with Mr Purdy and then with the Principal.

HALF TERM HOLIDAYS The school will close for half-term on Monday 13th February at 2.00 p.m. (for all classes). School will reopen on Monday 20th February 2017.

SCHOOL BOOK FAIR Our Annual Book Fair will be held from Monday 30th January – Friday 3rd February 2017. We will have a display of books in school each day during this period. Pupils will have two visits per class to select and purchase books. A leaflet detailing most of the books available to be purchased should now be with you. You may send your order together with money to your child’s teacher or, indeed, parents are invited to visit the Fair when attending the parent interviews. The books are extremely good value and I would recommend them to you.

VISITORS TO SCHOOL To comply with our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, we have introduced a Visitor’s Book which should be signed by everyone, both parents and visitors, who enter the School building. The book is currently held in Mrs Logan’s office and should be signed when entering and leaving the School. The visitor will then be issued with a Visitor’s Badge.

THANK YOU Many thanks to all who contributed to the collection at the Christmas Carol Service at St Colman’s Church. A fantastic sum of £310.00 was raised in support of The Alzheimer’s Society.

DISCO There will be a Valentine Disco in the School Assembly Hall on Wednesday 8th February 2017. P1 – P3 – 6.00 p.m. – 7.00 p.m. and P4 – P7 – 7.15 p.m. – 8.15 p.m. – Cost £1.50 to include crisps and juice.

SCHOOL TOUR TO YORK (PRIMARY 6 & PRIMARY 7) – Monday 5th June – Thursday 8th June 2017. We are now in the final stages of payment for this Tour. Please note that the total cost of £335.00 must be paid no later than Monday 6th March 2017. A Tour Meeting for parents and “travellers” will be arranged nearer to the date of departure of the tour.

OPERA HOUSE An excellent afternoon was enjoyed by all. We have booked again for next year when the pantomime will be “Peter Pan”. More details nearer the time.

SUMMER DRESSES These are available at Gordon’s, Green Street, Carrickfergus at a cost of £15.00 approximately. Gordon’s have the dresses in stock and they may be worn from Monday 24th April 2017 (weather permitting). Could I remind all parents that if considering summer shoes, (although normal black school shoes are very acceptable with the school dress), we would prefer sandals in red, navy or black. Strappy high sandals are not a school option in the interests of safety in the playground!
