FEBRUARY 2016

EARLY CLOSING/PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS Please remember school closes for all pupils at 1.00 p.m. from Monday 1st – Friday 5th February 2016 to accommodate parental interviews. . Dinners will be served as normal. Interviews have been arranged so that teachers will see family members on the same day. The interviews are timed to last 15 minutes and I would be grateful if you would please be mindful of the timescale allocated. As all teachers are interviewing, we cannot look after children during the interviews, so we would ask that you make arrangements to have someone care for them while you attend.

Primary 7 pupils have been issued with invitations for interview regarding Transfer Procedures on Monday 1st Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd February 2016. Due to the restrictions for return of forms, it is important that all parents attend on these three dates. You will also have an opportunity of firstly meeting with Mr Purdy and then with the Principal.

HALF TERM HOLIDAYS  The school will close for half-term on Friday 12th February at 2.00 p.m. School will reopen on Friday 19th February 2016.

SCHOOL BOOK FAIR  Our Annual Book Fair will be held from Monday 1st February – Friday 5th February 2016. We will have a display of books in school each day during this period. Pupils will have two visits per class to select and purchase books. A leaflet detailing most of the books available to be purchased should now be with you. You may send your order together with money to your child’s teacher or, indeed, parents are invited to visit the Fair when attending the parent interviews. The books are extremely good value and I would recommend them to you.

THANK YOU  Many thanks to all who contributed to the collection at the Christmas Carol Service at St Colman’s Church. A fantastic sum of £330.00 was raised in support of the Cancer Focus Charity.

DISCO  There will be a Valentine Disco in the School Assembly Hall on Wednesday 10th February 2016. P1 – P3 – 6.00 p.m. – 7.00 p.m. and P4 – P7 – 7.15 p.m. – 8.15 p.m. – Cost £1.50 to include crisps and juice.

CRITERIA FOR ENTRY TO THIS SCHOOL  Once again we have received a very favourable response to the September 2016 Primary 1 intake. Can I remind all parents that the distance your home is from this school is the last criteria considered and all children who have brothers and sisters or indeed the first/eldest child, no matter their address in Carrickfergus will be considered high on our list of criteria.

SCHOOL TOUR TO EDINBURGH (PRIMARY 6 & PRIMARY 7) – Monday 6th June – Thursday 9th June 2016. We are now in the final stages of payment for this Tour. Please note that the total cost of £325.00 must be paid no later than Monday 7th March 2016. A Tour Meeting for parents and “travellers” will be arranged nearer to the date of departure of the tour.

OPERA HOUSE  An excellent afternoon was enjoyed by all. We have booked again for next year when the pantomime will be “Cinderella”. More details nearer the time.

SUMMER DRESSES  These are available at Gordon’s, Green Street, Carrickfergus at a cost of £15.00 approximately. Gordon’s have the dresses in stock and they may be worn from Friday 8th April 2016 (weather permitting). Could I remind all parents that if considering summer shoes, (although normal black school shoes are very acceptable with the school dress), we would prefer sandals in red, navy or black. Strappy high sandals are not a school option in the interests of safety in the playground!

SOCIAL MEDIA  In recent years the use of social media to discuss school business has become problematic in a number of schools. Issues often arise where discussions occur about something which is either not true, or at best a distortion of the truth. In such circumstances rumour, speculation and exaggeration often come to the fore with parents becoming annoyed, when there is really no need. I would hope that this situation would not arise in Eden, and I would encourage any parent who has a concern or worry to contact the school so that these may be addressed, and any misunderstandings cleared up, in the proper manner.
