'Carrickbay'

Primary 7 Pupil Names New Housing Development

In a recent competition run by a local property developer, Sarah Brown in P7 chose the winning name for a new development of houses on the Larne Road just beside the school. The competition was open to all pupils in Primary 5, 6 and 7 and there were many interesting and original names suggested. These included references to the famous author, Jonathan Swift, the new Prince George, the local salt mines and many others. However, it was Sarah's entry of ‘Carrickbay’ (the old name for Belfast Lough) which appealed most to the judging panel. The sign for the new development is already displayed and work is due to start in the very near future.

Congratulations to all the children who entered, and especially to Sarah, who won a prize for herself and £40 for a class party.
